Caroline's ride and eat. 8th May

Distance 80miles.  Time approx 2hrs 30mins

Last year our local MAG Group decided to do more evening ride outs, which proved to be very popular, so every couple of weeks someone is nominated to decide where we are going and how we are getting there.

Monday evening and a group of 7of us have met at the lay-by in Egremont which has become our regular meeting place. We are going to the Oddfellows Arms in Caldbeck for a meal and a coke, a route and venue chosen by Caroline. We set off late which is the norm and head down the back road towards Cockermouth and at an easy pace, at Pardshaw school we turn right and head up to Lorton and then over Whinlatter Pass, momentarily stopping to take in the view of Bass Lake, into Braithwaite and then onto the A66 where we take a right and then a left at the roundabout to take the road round the back of Bass Lake.

After a couple of miles we take a right and head for Caldbeck. We arrive about 8ish and immediately go into the pub and order dinner which we all thoroughly enjoy coz we've been starving ourselves all day. We get back onto the bikes and head for the A595 and then home.

The views on the Caldbeck road were ok

The roads weren't bad either

The weather was very good for this ride out which took about 1hr 30mins of easy riding to get to Caldbeck. A good route either by day or light night, I wouldn't recommend it for riding in the dark. The food in the Oddfellows Arms was very good and it had plenty of room to stow the helmets and jackets as we used an empty table to put them on. Plenty of room to park the bikes as well.

Good grub served here

view across the Solway to Scotland

After the pub we made our way to the A595 (Cockermouth to Carlisle road) and while heading for it we got a great view of the Solway Firth and the hills in Scotland via a red sunset.
Pictures were taken at a later date.
