Farmyard 2010

Yorkshire MAG's premier event which I hadn't attended for quite a few years and very nearly didn't attend this year because of a puncture, the story of which you can find elsewhere on this site. The ride over was in glorious sunshine and it was very warm. I travelled over with Geoff and we only made one stop at Scotch Corner for fuel and a coffee.

Pitching the tents

The smiley flag helped us find our tents

We arrived at the site and chose the non smoking area after remembering how on previous visits I had nearly choked on the smoke from the fires. We pitched our tents and made for the main area to see what the stalls had on offer and to find a bar. We went to watch the England game but the tent was packed out so, after saying hello to Caroline, Darren and Craig we headed for the Blues tent where I was introduced to the Swaheelies, a great bunch of lads from the North East, who kept us entertained all night thank god as I am not a blues music person.

Saturday saw us waken to a turn in the weather, it was bloody freezing, overcast and damp. After a full English breakfast, which was lovely, we headed into Helmsley for the ritual taking over of all the pubs in the town where we met Luki and Tracy sunning themselves outside the pub. I only stayed about an hour before making my way back to the site where I spent a bit of time with Neil and Claire. We went into a marquee where we had apple pie and custard, who'd have thought a few years ago that you would be able to have such food at a bike rally it came in a pot dish and a metal spoon, luxury. Again the night was spent in the Blues tent where we met up with some of the Kendal MAG.

Sunday morning saw me up and packed ready to go while Geoff was still snoring his head off, which was why I was up early. He eventually woke and we headed home again calling in at Scotch Corner for a bacon butty and fuel. Called in at Keswick but there was no one there so just said our farewells and headed home. If I'm on my rest days I will be going next year.
